Salman magic rubs off on Katrina

Trade pundits say Khan’s former girl can take credit for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’s success
The end of Ramadan seems to have marked the beginning of a hit run for Bollywood at the box office.
After Salman Khan’s stupendously successful Bodyguard, Yash Raj Films’ Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has collected Rs 27 crore in its first three days.
Trade experts attribute this success to the movie’s lead heroine Katrina Kaif, who has been on a hit parade (except for Tees Maar Khan which bombed last Christmas) for a while now.
“For a movie that cost the producers about Rs 30 crore, including prints and advertising, Rs 27 crore in the first three days is very good.
And it’s thanks to Katrina, who’s the soul of the film, ” says veteran trade analyst Amod Mehra. He adds that the film’s producers will easily make Rs 50 crore.
Sharing a similar view is Manod Desai of Maratha Mandir.
He says, “While MBKD didn’t open as expected, it picked up over the weekend to average about 95 per cent occupancy in first three days. Even though Monday morning shows were not as occupied, it won’t matter much.”
Agrees Prakhar Joshi of PVR Cinemas. He pegs the romcom’s collection at his multiplex chain at R 3.15 crore in the first three days.
“Even occupancy of 45 per cent on Monday is decent, never mind if the drop in the Bombay territory is more than Delhi, ” he observes.
Bodyguard’s success stint continues
Meanwhile, Bodyguard continues to lure in Salman’s loyal audiences. Mumbai- based distributor Ramesh Sippy of Raksha Entertainment attributes it to a triple weekend for the film that released on August 31.
“The first day was Eid, so it was like a weekend. And no other star has the festival’s advantage as much as Salman. Then Saturday-Sunday, followed by the weekend gone by.
It’s already made the numbers for everyone associated with it. Now, it’s only adding to the bonus, ” he notes.
While Mehra says the craze for Bodyguard is diminishing in metropolitan cities, he’s quick to point out that it’s holding well in select multiplexes in select centers.
“So far, it has netted about R 115 crore. But I don’t think it will cross Dabangg, ” he concludes.
Indore-based distributor Aditya Choksey of Akshar Enterprises is optimistic. “Hopefully, by the end of the coming weekend, Bodyguard should cross Dabangg, which is the second biggest hit, ” he maintains

Refused to walk the ramp in bikini – Minissha Lamba

Actress Minissha Lamba has shot down reports that she walked the ramp in a bikini in her forthcoming comedy “Hum Tum Shabana”, saying there was such a scene in the script but she refused to do it.
“I put my foot down and didn’t wear a bikini in the film. A scene was planned likewise but I refused to do it,” Minissha, who slipped into a bikini for her role in “Kidnap”, told IANS in an interview.
Directed by Sagar Ballary, “Hum Tum Shabana” is not a run-of-the-mill romantic comedy, says the actress, adding: “The impression that you have is that it’s a story of two guys who are after a girl. It’s typical of a romantic comedy. If you think that is all there in the film, then you have to think again.”
The 26-year-old, who mader her debut with “Yahaan” in 2005, has teamed with Ballary for second time for “Hum Tum Shabana” after “Bheja Fry 2″.
The bikini scene notwithstanding, Minissha feels lucky to be part of the film as it is one of the rarest of comedies where the story revolves around a female character.
“Most comedies don’t have much space for women. It’s a very male dominated domain and most comedies are male oriented. In ‘Hum Tum Shabana’, I am lucky to get the title role and every action is around or motivated by Shabana. So she is the central and inevitable character in the film, which is very rare in a comedy.
“It has an equal dose of emotion, drama, and action and of course comedy. It’s not a slapstick comedy I would say,” she said
Releasing Sep 23, the film will see Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor wooing Minissha.
Talking about her character, she said: “She is a part of a beauty pageant. She is the most unlikely contestant to be in a beauty pageant. She doesn’t fit the criteria of someone who can be a model. She doesn’t win the pageant, of course. What drama exudes after that is the high point of the film.”
Friend turned foe, Shreyas and Tushhar, didn’t let their personal differences affect the shooting of the film, said Minissha.
Minissha, who featured in films like “Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.” (2007), “Bachna Ae Haseeno” (2008), and “Well Done Abba!” (2009), will be seen next in Akshay Kumar starrer “Joker” and hard-hitting action drama “Zilla Ghaziabad”.
“If they had problem between them, I had do not know about it. Either there are no conflicts between them or they are just brilliant actors. See, everyone was professional on the sets. Even if they had personal differences, they are so thorough professional that they didn’t let it affect their work,” she said.

Katrina Kaif Showing her Navel - Heroein Hot

Katrina Kaif began her modeling career at age fourteen; her first assignment was for a jewelry campaign. She continued modeling in London under a contract with the Models 1 Agency and did campaigns for houses such as La Senza and Arcadius, and even walked on the London Fashion Week. Kaif's modeling work led to her discovery by London-based filmmaker Kaizad Gustad, who gave her a part in his film Boom (2003). The film, which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Gulshan Grover, failed to make an impact. She then moved to Mumbai and was offered a number of modeling assignments, but filmmakers were hesitant to cast Kaif due to her poor command of Hindi.

Bodyguard Hindi Movie Review

For most of us, the festive season is also about entertaining ourselves with a Bollywood biggie. Following two blockbuster Eid releases in the last two years, WANTED [2009] and DABANGG [2010], Salman Khan, the darling of the masses, unleashes yet another entertainer this Eid [this time, it coincides with Ganesh Chaturthi] -- BODYGUARD. The buzz around a Salman movie only got bigger this year, but the pertinent question is, will Salman deliver yet another festive hit with BODYGUARD? After having set such high standards for himself, will Salman surpass his previous achievements? Well, that should be easy to pull off taking into account [a] Salman's current form at the box-office and [b] The film has the merits to stand on its feet.

A section of the industry feels that Salman is limiting himself to hardcore masala films that defy logic. That he's slowly getting typecast in similar genre movies. Perhaps, you may assume that BODYGUARD is no exception. You may also assume that BODYGUARD is an extension of what we've witnessed in DABANGG and READY. But it is not so. Let me say, BODYGUARD is atypical Salman entertainer, yet there are moments [in its second hour specifically] that make it stand apart from all Salman starrers we have witnessed in the recent past, which includes WANTED, DABANGG and READY.

Let me elaborate. You expect Salman starrers to be larger-than-life, superhero films. You expect him to be the messiah of the masses. BODYGUARD presents Salman exactly the way we expect him to be presented, but, at the same time, the film brings back memories of the soft, romantic roles that Salman essayed in his initial films. What makes the film tick is that Salman and director Siddique have done something hatke within the limitations of the typical Bollywood formula, which, I am sure, should appeal to the Hindi movie buff abundantly.

Final word? BODYGUARD is a perfect family entertainer that compliments the spirit of the festive season.

When it comes to being punctual and doing his duties perfectly, Lovely Singh [Salman Khan] is unmatchable. Taking great pride in what he does, he spares no effort in giving his everything to his profession.

Lovely is summoned for an assignment of guarding Divya [Kareena Kapoor], the daughter of Sartaj Rana [Raj Babbar], a business tycoon. Lovely accompanies her to her campus, but ends up rubbing her the wrong way with his over-protective nature. She finds him to be a major obstacle in leading a regular campus life. To throw him off-track and get him out of the way, she comes up with a 'master plan' -- that of trapping him in a fake love affair. 'Once he's smitten by the girl of his dreams and is reveling in his new-found romance, he will leave us alone and we shall be free to do our own thing unhindered', says Divya to her friends.

She becomes an anonymous admirer of his and starts hounding him, expressing her 'feelings' in no uncertain terms. Lovely, however, proves to be a tough nut to crack and it takes quite a bit of doing from her side to penetrate his fort-like exterior. But once she succeeds in doing so, he transforms into a completely different person. Divya is triumphant and is all set to relish her regained freedom.

But things take an unexpected turn when she learns a few things about Lovely. Things that she could've never even imagined. And she soon finds herself trapped in a dilemma that she's unable to resolve. And with her, soon enough, Lovely finds himself trapped in a web of lies, trickery and deceit.

BODYGUARD is a simple-n-sweet tale of love that's engaging and relatable. At the same time, there's an unexpected twist in the pre-climax which shocks you completely. At no point does the director swerve from the main plot to provide a few extra laughs or thrills. Besides, this is a script which gives actors a lot of room to emote. And both Salman and Kareena seize the opportunity with both hands. More on that later!

Like I pointed out earlier, with BODYGUARD, Salman returns to a genre he started out with -- love story. Sure, BODYGUARD is a remake of a Malayalam film [remade in various South Indian languages as well], which has all the trappings of a perfect masala film -- action, music, comedy -- but BODYGUARD is essentially a love story at heart. Salman's intro may give an impression that it's a hardcore masala film, especially the song and fight sequence [frankly, the first half of the film is routine, with not much happening in the plot]. The director reserves the best for the second half, when it transforms into a love story. The action scene in the second half -- when Salman and Aditya Pancholi get into a fist fight -- is outstanding and will send his fans in raptures. Especially the moment when Salman's shirt rips off and his ripped muscles can be seen. The twist in the tale is a complete shocker. In fact, the penultimate reels of the film catches you complete unaware since you don't expect the story to change so dramatically.

Director Siddique, who has directed the same script for the third time, ensures that a simple story is narrated with simplicity and unfussiness. The twist in the tale comes at the right time, the songs are smartly integrated in the plotline and of course, there are ample comic moments, courtesy Rajat Rawail. The best thing about the film is that Siddique has made a very conscious effort to project Salman as a sensitive human being and not as a demigod, which is why the character becomes all the more relatable and endearing.

The soundtrack fits the genre of the film well. The title track at the very start [Salman's intro] will draw whistles and claps, while 'Teri Meri' is undoubtedly the pick of the lot. Soulfully rendered, this one's simply mesmerizing. Overall, it's a hit score from Himesh Reshammiya and Pritam. Sejal Shah's cinematography is appropriate. Vijayan's action sequences are stylish. Though not an action film, the action sequences do stand out.

Salman delivers one of his best performances in recent times. He makes magnificent use of his tough physique and soft face. Salman's fans are sure to lap this knockout performance in a big way. BODYGUARD would be incomplete without Kareena's contribution. Some roles are tailor-made for actresses who can deliver with aplomb and who better than Kareena to infuse life in a challenging character. She looks gorgeous [as always] and gives this character the dignity that it deserves. Raj Babbar is perfect. Mahesh Manjrekar is as usual. Aditya Pancholi, in a cameo, stages a welcome comeback. He's first-rate. Rajat Rawail is a joy to watch. He's truly funny. Hazel is quite good. Asrani and Vidya Sinha are okay in their respective parts.

On the whole, BODYGUARD works for varied reasons -- it has a simple, but captivating story with a dramatic twist in the tale, the chemistry between the lead actors is perfect and the music is well juxtaposed in the narrative. But its biggest USP is, without doubt, Salman Khan. He carries the film on his broad and brawny shoulders and that alone is the imperative reason for watching this film. BODYGUARD should emerge his third festive hit and fourth super-success at the ticket window. Expect a hurricane called BODYGUARD to strike at the box-office.

The actor-politician also expressed support for charity towards underprivileged children through collections of the second week screenings of the film at a Movie Time theatre here.
Anil Kapur, the CEO of Movie Time, felicitated the 59-year-old at the cinema hall in Rajouri Garden here, followed by a screening of the movie, which broke opening day records by minting Rs.22 crore in domestic market.
The event was organised for star Salman Khan, who is currently in Pittsburgh, recuperating from a surgery for a condition called trigeminal neuralgia, which had been causing excruciating pain in his head, jaws and cheeks.
“This event has been organised for Salman, who is in US fighting his ailment. God willing, he will be fine soon. We have felicitated Mr.Raj Babbar, who has starred in ‘Bodyguard’ as well. We are glad that he agreed to come for the special screening, and shown support to us for a charity programme related to ‘Bodyguard’,” Kapur told IANS.

The Bolly Litmus-Interesting Chemistry Lessons!

Our desi tinsel town does not fail to surprise. With new developments and fresh creativity modifying filmmaking ideas, Bollywood has come a long way from its initial days. Over the years, it has been proven, that a film’s success depends, in great measure, on the pair enacting the lead roles. Thus comes in the reference to onscreen chemistry that these pairs share. With changes in the modern lifestyles and present mindset, filmmakers have tried to bend the rules and have been successful at most times. Read on for some new onscreen jodis that are gaining high ratings on the Bollywood popularity meter. Some are even real life lovebirds or are on the road to become so. Whatever, be their status, their ability to come across as a convincing couple is what has turned them into peoples’ favorites.
With Gen Y stars dominating the choices of filmmakers, most of the present Bollywood jodiswho are perpetually in news, are vibrant and have brought in a much wanted but never before seen freshness to cinema.
The Punjabi Punch
While the Kapoor family has been hailed as B town’s first family, the junior most Kapoor to hit the silver screen has always generated lot of attention. His paring on screen with Deepika Padukone let to a lot of tongues wagging about a real life romance which were proved true. However, after sometime of cozy outings and even family meet ups, this hot onscreen pair chose to part ways in real. Despite this, fans have always been wishing a comeback of Miss Long Legs and the Kapoor kid to come together to recreate the magic of the killer Bachna Ae Haseeno.
Hold on…the punch is to hit you harder still…! Another on screen chemistry formulation that is again in news despite having fizzed out some time back is that of Piggychops and Ranbir. While the Anjaana Anjaani pair could not do much justice to the anticipation of the audience in this first outing onscreen, tinsel town and fan clubs are abuzz with their chemistry in the upcoming Barfee. With strikingly different looks and a de-glam avatar they have donned in the film, one can only wait to know if the screen lights up at their second attempt to make a fire.
Flowery Fresh
When there is talk of Ranbir and chemistry, Katrina Kaif- the ex lover of Sallu Miyan can be expected to queue up next in line. Pretty Miss Kaif has been proving critics wrong with her clever choice of films and err… heroes too! While most of Bollywood is split in camps, one lady who clears away from loyalty to any group is the Brit lass. Her chemistry with Imran Khan in the upcoming Meri Brother Ki Dulhan is simple, fresh and awesome, to say the least. The pairing is young and the promos drive home the point that both sizzle in their own way on screen. Now it is to be seen if the Barbie Girl of Bollywood recreates the chemistry on lines of the Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani outing with the Aaamir Khan bhanja, this time.
Kapur-Kapoor
With same sounding surnames, two Bolly favorites who have been generating a lot of popularity in the past week are Sonam Kapoor and chocolate boy Shahid Kapoor. With Mausum promos flooding the internet and print media, the pair’s onscreen chemistry is also being discussed among cine gossipmongers. While the Kapoor lady indeed stands tall and has an all diva like aura, the Jab We Met man well compliments her character in the film.
Band Bajaa and Chemistry
No, we have not got the movie name all messed up. We are talking of the hot hot, not be missed chemistry between Ranveer Singh and the Parachute girl Anushka Sharma. With the super hit Band Baaja Baraat having brought the couple in the limelight, things have now turned all real from reel! Yes– one of the most refreshing onscreen chemistries has translated into real for the lead pair of Band Baaja Baraat.  Catch them up vacationing in Goa and they still maintain the classic “we are just friends” stance. Way to go before the actual Band Baajais heard.
The Saifeena Sizzler
One of the top Bollywood chemistry chapters that have real life connotations too- This pair rocked and ripped apart the screens with Qurbaan but has chosen to play down their onscreen outings. Fans were in for a treat with the Chote Nawab and the Kapoor girl choosing to venture onscreen while being a full time couple. Well, for now we have almost forgotten the blunder that resulted while Kareena had Shahid around! As of now it looks that this chemistry formula is being hailed as a classic one by fans and industry favorites.
Dependable Serial Kisser in Picture
Emraan Hashmi has had the best songs in Bollywood and perhaps gets to relish the best chemistry with co stars too. Hover, the latter came into greatest focus in his Murder 2 outing with the gorgeous Jacqueline Fernandez. With the least of inhibitions that is pretty new to our film industry, the two managed to actually set the screen on fire. The Haal-e-Dil song on YouTube has received manifold hits owing to the sensual video that reveals the awesome chemistry that the Hashmi–Fernandez pair has managed to shake up!
With such new formulae hitting the chemistry book of Bollywood it is only time that shall tell which would be part of the classic pairs on lines of Amitabh-Rekha or Shahrukh-Kajol. Since fans today cherish a great movie with a bucket full of pop corn, we can only pray that; whatever be the real life consequence of onscreen jodis; the pairs at least deliver awesome silver screen chemistry. With more and more newcomers and non filmy background actors boarding the Bollywood bus, we look forward to more such interesting pairings who make us believe that they are very much in love, even if they are not! After all, good cinema means bringing realism to things that may be imaginative!

Force Hindi Music Review

EXPECTATIONS

There are quite a few reasons to expect good music fromForce. First and foremost Vipul Shah has a good track record when it comes to music - Action Replayy, Namastey London, Waqt and Aankhen are a testimony of that. Also, Force is a remake of Tamil hit Kakka Kakkawhich again had superb music. Moreover, composer Harris Jayaraj's music of Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein is played even a decade after it was heard first. With Javed Akhtar joining as a lyricist, you do have good expectations from the soundtrack here.

MUSIC

It's a terrific start for Force with 'Khwabon Khwabon' with the opening track. A redone version of the same number which had become hugely popular in Kakka Kakka as well, this one carries a stronger punch to it with Kay Kay and Suchitra coming together well to create the kind of sound that has an international appeal to it. A love song that could as well find itself in a dance floor zone, 'Khwabon Khwabon' is just the chartbuster that John Abraham could well have been looking for, especially after his way too subtle outing in last year's Jhootha Hi Sahi

Bombay Jayashree, whose rendition in 'Zara Zara' (RHTDM) stays on to be a mighty popular number across the country till date, sounds way too different in 'Chahoon Bhi' but effective nevertheless. This Harris Jayaraj has a quintessential South sound to it and in fact almost enters A.R, Rahman zone. However, by no means is that a deterrent as the love song not just flows smoothly but is also extremely easy on ears. To add to this, Javed Akhtar's poetry only makes this romantic number further special. With Karthik joining much later, 'Chahoon Bhi' may not be an instant chartbuster but has potential to enjoy a much greater shelf life.

There is a sudden shift in proceedings though with Mahua singing 'Dum Hai To Aaja'. Created by guest composer Lalit Pandit, this one appears to be set in a club or a villain's den and has a thump to it that starts making an impression after the song has been heard four-five times. Not the kind of number that one associates with a Vipul Shah film, this one comes across as an item number with a Mission Impossible interlude that adds on to the intrigue factor. One does expect this situational number to be adding on to the film's narrative.

Thankfully Force comes back to the basics and reverts with the kind of music that one was expecting from the soundtrack. 'Main Chali' is the romantic number to arrive and this one stands right up there with 'Khwabon Khwabon' when it comes to making a thumping impact. Yes, this one too has a Tamil flavour to it and one actually laps it up with both hands because an unexplored sound is always welcome. A mix of melody and rhythm makes this Naresh Iyer and Shreya Goshal number good enough to keep your attention on screen. Also, with the fusion of fire (John) and ice (Genelia), 'Main Chali' should make for a good combination.

Last to arrive is 'Dil Ki Hai Tamanna' which is a love ballad in the offering and follows a mood similar to that of 'Chahoon Bhi'. With Vijay Prakash, Shalini Singh and Neha Bhasin coming together, this may well have been a Valentine special picturised on campus youngsters. A song which seemingly appears in a situation where the lead pair is just about trying to know each other and becoming comfortable in each other's company, 'Dil Ki Hai Tamanna' could have found a comfortable inclusion into a quintessential romantic entertainer.
